Client FAQ

What kinds of issues do you treat?

We provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families across a wide range of concerns — including anxiety, depression, grief, major life transitions, identity, relationship difficulties, trauma, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, and addiction. Our clinicians draw from IFS, DBT, CBT, ACT, psychodynamic, attachment-based, and existential modalities, tailored to each person.

Do you treat trauma?

Yes. We treat trauma directly — including complex trauma, PTSD, childhood adversity, and relational wounds — at the outpatient level. Our clinicians use IFS, psychodynamic, DBT, ACT, and attachment-based approaches. We do not use EMDR, but our depth-oriented modalities are well-suited to sustained trauma work.

Do you offer telehealth or online therapy?

Yes. We offer telehealth therapy to clients across all of New Jersey. Virtual sessions are conducted securely online, so you can access care from anywhere in the state. All our clinicians also see clients in person at our Metuchen, NJ office.

Do you offer in-person therapy?

Yes. All our clinicians see clients in person at our Metuchen, NJ office, and virtual sessions are available across New Jersey. We share the office address when you schedule.

Do you treat co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders?

Yes. Our clinicians specialize in co-occurring disorders — treating mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD alongside substance use disorders including alcohol, opioids, and other drug dependencies in an integrated approach.

Can I come here after finishing an IOP or residential program?

Yes. We work with clients transitioning out of IOP, PHP, or residential rehab throughout New Jersey. Our clinicians provide the clinical depth needed to maintain treatment gains in an outpatient setting.

Do you offer couples therapy?

Yes. We offer couples therapy statewide in New Jersey, addressing communication patterns, conflict, intimacy, trust, and relationship transitions.

Fellowship FAQ

What is the Therapy Aligned Fellowship?

The Therapy Aligned Fellowship is a 2-year structured clinical training program for licensed clinicians in New Jersey. Fellows receive supervised clinical experience, specialized training in evidence-based modalities, and a direct pathway to independent practice ownership.

Who is eligible for the fellowship?

The fellowship is open to LSW, LAC, LCSW, LPC, and LCADC clinicians in New Jersey. It is designed to align with the LCSW supervision timeline but is not a provisional-to-full licensure pathway. Completion requires a full license.

Is clinical supervision included?

Yes. Fellowship leads provide provisionally licensed fellows with individual supervision and lead biweekly group supervision for all fellows, including fully licensed — at no cost to fellows. All fellows also attend quarterly in-person supervision summits. See individual fellowship pages for track-specific details.

What does the ownership pathway look like?

After completing at least 2 years in the fellowship, graduates are eligible to open their own Therapy Aligned-affiliated independent practice. You take your caseload with you, join the TA IPA/CIN for group contracting and referrals, and receive ongoing administrative and technology support. Completion of the Fellowship is based on meeting objective program requirements. Graduation is a separate designation awarded by Practice leadership based on clinical and ownership readiness.

What specializations are available?

Fellowship specializations include co-occurring disorders, complex trauma, couples therapy, existential/humanistic approaches, adolescent & family, and addiction & recovery — with more tracks being added.

Do I need business experience to open a practice?

No. Therapy Aligned provides the administrative, billing, credentialing, and technology infrastructure so you can focus on clinical work. The ownership pathway is designed for clinicians, not MBAs.

What populations will I work with?

Fellows carry a supervised caseload in person in Metuchen and via telehealth across New Jersey, including adults and, depending on specialization, children, adolescents, couples, and families. Our client population includes individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma, co-occurring disorders, addiction, grief, and life transitions.

How do I apply?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Submit your background and clinical interests through our fellowship application form and we will schedule a conversation.

Supervisor Track FAQ

What is the Supervisor Track?

The Supervisor Track is for experienced, fully licensed clinicians with supervisory authority who want to build a clinical tree, get paid to supervise fellows, design their own fellowship specialization, and ultimately launch an affiliated group practice — taking their caseload and their fellows with them.

How is the Supervisor Track different from the Fellowship?

Both follow the same core pathway (minimum 2 years, then ownership). What sets the Supervisor Track apart: you recruit and supervise your own cohort of fellows, you propose and lead your own specialized fellowship track, and you are compensated for supervision from day one.

Can I design my own fellowship track?

Yes. Supervisors work with Therapy Aligned to define a specialized fellowship curriculum built around their clinical population and approach — co-occurring disorders, complex trauma, couples, existential/humanistic, or something entirely your own.

What happens when I launch my group practice?

Your fellows come with you — both provisionally licensed fellows and fully licensed fellows still within their 2-year fellowship are eligible to transfer to your new TA-affiliated group practice. Your caseload transfers. TA provides administrative infrastructure, tech platform access, credentialing support, and IPA/CIN membership. You own the practice — TA powers it.

What is the IPA/CIN?

The IPA/CIN (Independent Practice Association / Clinically Integrated Network) is a collaborative network of TA-affiliated independent practices. Members benefit from group payer contracting, shared credentialing, referral pathways, and a community advancing clinical culture together.

Who is eligible?

Fully licensed clinicians with supervisory authority in New Jersey. We review applications on a rolling basis.
